Limited Edition "Exploded Flowers" screen print bandana by Ben Venom. 100% cotton. Ben Venom is a contemporary American textile artist best known for transforming heavy metal culture into intricate quilts and fabric-based works. Bandana measures 21 x 22".
Ben started sewing and quilting later in life, after being immersed in music scenes. His items often show the juxtaposition of soft vs. aggressive. He earned his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2007. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the National Folk Museum of Korea, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, and other museums and galleries. He has completed artist residencies at MASS MoCA and the de Young Museum and lives and works in San Francisco.
Venom works with repurposed textiles, bringing imagery associated with punk, metal, skateboarding, and counterculture into dialogue with traditional quilting and the comforts of domesticity. Stains, tears, and wear in reclaimed fabrics remain part of the work, allowing the materials’ individual histories to become part of a larger collective narrative.
