Print on fabric with natural indigo powder, using this all in one Indigo Block Printing Kit, created by Toronto based textile artist Julie Sinden. Indigo is the natural world's only source of color fast blue. However, it is not soluble in water, and so needs to be applied in a very unique way in order to use it as a paste for block printing or silk screening.
Julie is an award winning textile artist originally from the quiet shores of Lake Erie, now living and working in Toronto. A lover of the fiber arts since she was a child, she studied textiles at the Kootenay School of the Arts, a small and eclectic school in the mountains of southeastern British Columbia. In 2018, she launched "The Love of Color, a place to celebrate color, plant dyes and making. She teaches dye classes at "The Workroom" in Toronto.
This kit includes the ingredients to create a thickened paste for applying the indigo, as well as the additives for the bath to fix the paste to the fabric, and the ingredients to put the indigo through the classic "reduction" process, so that it is permanent and colorfast. It also includes comprehensive instructions for creating, applying, fixing and reducing the paste.
The kit can be used with lino cuts, wood blocks, silk screening or brushed/painted/stenciled on. These materials are not included.
