Dana Gioia is an internationally acclaimed award-winning poet, former Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, and a native Californian of Italian and Mexican descent. He served as the California State Poet Laureate from 2015 to 2019. During his tenure he became the first laureate to visit all 58 counties of California. In 2018 he joined a cohort of Santa Barbara’s own poets laureate, for a reading and celebration of poetry and creativity at SBMA.
